The SMART Keyer Series
The SMART Keyer Series was designed by N4YG and offered for sale during the 1980s and 1990s. These are no longer available, the reason being that the Intel(tm) 8749 microcontroller is obsolete. While it may still be purchased, the price has risen considerably. N4YG is considering a bringing back the SMART Keyer with a new keyer, the SMART Keyer IV, which would look much like the original SMART Keyer except that its capability would be significantly increased. It would use one of the Microchip(tm) 18F series microcontrollers and it would be battery powered because of its exceptionally low power drain. If you are interested in such a keyer, which would be offered in kit form for about $125, N4YG would appreciate an email with your comments. A new SMART Keyer design only if there are at least 50 expressions of intent to purchase kits. Please email N4YG if you are interested in the SMART Keyer IV.
If you are good at constructing one of a kind accessories for the shack and feel inclined to do so, you might build your own SMART Keyer II or SMART Keyer III. The schematics and source and object code are available for download. An assembler for the MCS-48 series processor may also be downloaded. This project is recommended for experienced builders only.
