If your TR-7 PTO is not providing the frequency stablilty you wish or if its tuning is erratic, the N4YG DDS systems may be the solution. The N4YG DDS system may replace the PTO in the TR-7 or its remote VFO, the RV-7. When integrated into either of these, the stability and performance rivals that of the best transceivers. Integration into the RV-7 is accomplished with relative ease because of the excess space in the RV-7 cabinet. Installation in the TR-7 is a bit more difficult. AD3G has replaced the PTO in both his TR-7 and RV-7, resulting in a very neat installation. The photos below show the interior of these units with the DDS board visible.

The features provided when integrated into either the TR-7 or RV-7 are as follows:

- Dual VFOs
- Split Operation
- Receiver Incremental Tuning +/- 1.5 KHz
- Outstanding Stability
- No Moving Parts (Other than the incremental encoder)
- No Change in External Appearance
- Installation in a Few Hours
- Variable Tuning Rate for Fine Tuning and Easy QSY
- Operation from the same Supply Which Powered the PTO
- Use of Existing Digital Frequency Display

You will notice the small 12.6 VAC transformer which was used in the earlier installations. This is because 12.6 VAC was the prime power source in the original design. A small retrofit kit is now supplied so that DC power, 8 to 12 VDC may be used as the prime power source.

. The steps in the installation process are as follows:

- Remove the PTO

- Mount the Incremental Encoder in the hole in the front panel where the PTO shaft was previously

- Mount the DDS Board in a Convenient Location Using Standoffs

- Attach all loose wires attached to cable to appropriate points (power, DDS Control, etc.)

- Plug All Connectors Into the Board and the Incremental Encoder

Don Perrilloux has done a nice job with installation in his TR4CW. The TR4 installation is much like that of the HW-101, but with a firmware load specifically for the TR4. Don has a nice LCD readout which is easily calibrated by the user to an accuracy of a few tens of Hz.
